How will we pay for all this? Some numbers to share for skeptics:
Total US GDP for 2023 is about $26 trillion.
A GDP per capita of everyone living in this country would
equal $76,470 per person if we use 340 million people, which
we are close to.
For this example let's say there are 170 million workers.
85 million retirees. 85 million under 18.
Use $4,670 from every person for taxes and you get $2.2 trillion
in revenue.
Of the $70K spent on every child under 18, use $24K
for children UBI.
$24K per year to pay for school/daycare & $12k per year for
healthcare.
That leaves $10k left over per child.
A fourth of the population is under 18 so use that $10K per
each child for taxes again.
85 million x $10K gets us another $850 billion in taxes bringing
the total to $3.05 trillion in taxes raised.
Now let’s say the average pay was $25/hr for a 28 work week.
1460 hours a year gets you $36,500 a year.
Add in $24,000 a year UBI, plus $9,125 a year for exercising
an hour a day at a $25 hour and you are almost at $70,000.
Give people another $375 for voting in every election and now
bare minimum every adult is making $70K if they are working
or retired.
Now let’s say all adults pay another $12k a year in taxes in sales tax or property tax and that just all goes to health care costs once collected. So that $3.05 trillion hasn’t been touched yet from taxes.
Now let’s also say that they spend $9K a year on overseas travel or trade so the money is flowing out of the country and not back into the economy. That still leaves $49K per all adults.
So now we come to money exchanging hands in the economy. If you spend all $49K of the money you earned that year at the minimum wage earned that would mean another American would have their full salary paid and then some.
The following are wages described after taxes.
So $49K x 255 million adults = $12.495 trillion. If 85 million earned double the minimum wage to make $50/hr that would subtract $3.1025 trillion from that number. So now we are at $9.3925 trillion.
Now we take 25% of working adults and have them make 4 x the minimum wage. So an additional $75 an hour x 1460 x 42.5 million would get us $4.65375 trillion. Once we subtract that from $9.3925 we are left with $4.738750 trillion.
Now let’s say 1.7 million makes 20 x the 25 wage. Another 1.7 million makes 10 x as much. And finally 1.7 million makes 40 x as much. That is an additional $2.4455 trillion. Now we are at $2.293250 left circulating that can be used for additional taxes to keep the government running after all salaries are paid. So over $5.34 trillion in taxes with all government salaries, health insurance, social security, and education paid for already. Now you have the wealth to do everything and not be in perpetual debt.
Those taxes would be paid by people making over the minimum. So for the top 1%, half of their income would go towards taxes. So if they made $2K an hour they would be left with $1K and at 1460 hours a year that would equal $1.46 million a year or almost 21 retirees $70K a year. That 1.7 million top 1% would cover nearly 35.45 million retirees with their taxes alone.
This is not how all the figures would shake out since there would be savings and other factors but this template shows that we can eliminate ALL poverty in the USA with the money we have right now and ensure everyone has a decent life.
$142 trillion in private wealth is held in the United States as of 2022.
- The top 10% hold 70% of it. Tax that at 90%, not just income, but wealth too & you have $89.5 trillion in wealth.
- All US public debt is $29.62 trillion. All US private debt is $15.24 trillion. $8 trillion paid in reparations now to 40 million ADOS= $36.64 trillion left over.
- Use .06% interest and you can add $2.1984 trillion to the US budget each year. Use $198.4 billion of it each year for the next 100 yrs get's you $19.84 trillion. Add that to the $36.64 trillion gets you $56.48 trillion.
- $6 trillion for reparations for the next 3 generations of ADOS yet to be born at $50000 available at age 18 for 120 million of them over next 60 years.
This leaves us with $50.5 trillion extra for fixing the immediate problems of climate change and global malnutrition/poverty.
It will cost $175 billion for the next 20 years to end poverty worldwide. $265 billion per year to end world hunger. Without even using the $50.5 trillion extra we have enough in the new budget to do this & still have over half a trillion extra in our budget each year. This would make America the humanitarian superpower of the world and go a long way to undo the damage we have inflicted on the planet with our imperialism & environment destroying policies. It would also improve our reputation & keep us safer. People are less inclined to want to hurt you if you are feeding them rather then bombing them or backing coups in their country. Food for thought.
This is how you can pay for everything without even using Modern Monetary Theory (which can still be used to fund additional programs immediately and then paid with the increased revenue later). We have enough wealth to do everything. Full employment, end poverty, free healthcare, medicare for all, quality education all of it. Anyone who tells you we can’t, you can show them this as an example of why we can. Now these numbers aren’t exactly how things will shake out. Some will get $26/hr others $33.50/hr & so on. Still it shows what is possible with the will behind it.
